Interlibrary loan (ILL) acquires books, articles and government publications not already owned by the Wetumpka Public Library.
Interlibrary Loan is available to anyone with a Wetumpka Public Library card that is in good standing.
This service is free of charge. However, if books are not picked up within 3 days of notification (or arrangements are made for a later pick up), there will be a fee of $3.00 per book to cover return postage and handling.
How to use Interlibrary Loan
Please search the card catalog first to see if the material you need is owned by the library. If not ask a librarian for the Interlibrary loan form. Fill out the form completely.
-Give an accurate title and author when possible. -Provide your library card number, name, and phone number. -Fill out a separate form for each item you want. -Forms that are illegible, incomplete, or have inaccurate information delay the process.
Turn in the completed form(s) at the circulation desk. You will pick up and return your materials at the same place you submit your ILL request.
The following materials cannot be requested through Interlibrary Loan:
-Most genealogical materials -Current-year materials -Reference books -In some cases picture or easy books -Audio/visual materials
Please plan ahead. Most requests are filled within 2 weeks. However, delays are common and there is no guarantee that a request can be filled. Lending libraries may take up to 28 days to respond to a loan request.
When the material arrives, the patron is notified either by phone or email. Material not picked up within 3 days after notification of arrival will be returned to the lending library unless special arrangements have been made. Failure to pick up a book that was requested will incur a $3.00 fine per book to cover return postage and handling.
Loan Periods and Due Dates
The loan period for books is determined by the lending library. The due date is indicated on the paper wrapped around the item’s cover. This wrapper should be left intact to insure accurate and prompt processing of the loan. Material should be returned by the due date to the circulation desk. Borrowers who disregard due dates jeopardize their Interlibrary Loan borrowing privileges.
Patrons will be charged $.50 per day for each day that an Interlibrary Loan book is overdue, with the maximum fine being the cost of the item.
The lending library retains the right to request the immediate return of any material it has loaned to the Wetumpka Public Library at any time before the original due date given. If this occurs the library will notify the patron of the new due date. The patron will owe an overdue fine for any materials returned after this newly established due date.
A patron may ask that the loan period of a borrowed item be extended. Any request for renewals must be made before the due date. The lending library determines the length of time, if any, the loan period may be extended. Many items borrowed through ILL are clearly marked “NO RENEWAL.” No attempt will be made to extend the loan period of these items.
The lending library will determine the replacement cost of any lost or damaged material.
