Murder on the Menu is our yearly fundraiser, usually held sometime in February at the Wetumpka Civic Center, that has developed into a highly anticipated event featuring top-notch mystery authors from around the country! During the afternoon there will be several opportunities to interact with the authors and to learn more about them. This event targets readers, writers, aspiring writers and fans of mysteries of all types. There are usually opportunities to bid in silent auctions to become a character in the next book written by some of our authors. Books will be available for purchase, and the authors are happy to autograph.
Money raised from this event has been used by FOWL to support Summer Library Programming for children, purchase furnishings and materials for the library, and to help finance other programs for the community.
As many of you know, Murder on the Menu (in Wetumpka) and Murder in the Magic City (in Birmingham) have been partnering together for many years in order to bring in mystery writers from around the country. Working together we are able to offer what turns out to be, for the authors, a nice three-day, two-city, conference. As coordinators of these events, Tammy Lynn and Margaret Fenton would very soon be extending author invitations, and tackling many of the pre-arrangements that have to be made in order to hold such events. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, as well as the safer at home order in place here by the Governor, the decision has been made to NOT have Murder on the Menu or Murder in the Magic City in 2021.Plans are to pick this up again in 2022 so be sure to check back next summer for updates and announcements.
Many thanks to FOWL officers, volunteers, and library staff who have always been willing to help in any way needed with Murder on the Menu.We are also very grateful for the support the community has shown this event over the past 15 years, and look forward to gathering together again.
